CAPTAIN (Master)

Job Purpose:

The Captain (master) holds overall command of the vessel and its crew, ensuring safe navigation, compliance with international maritime regulations, and effective execution of voyages. This role is critical in safeguarding offshore operations, maintaining operational excellence, and upholding South Coast Marines Limited’s commitment to safety, professionalism, and client satisfaction.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Exercise overall command of the vessel and crew.
  • Ensure safe navigation and compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, and Flag State regulations.
  • Implement and maintain the ISM Code onboard.
  • Plan and execute voyages efficiently and safely.
  • Conduct regular safety drills and oversee emergency command and crisis management.
  • Liaise with vessel owners, charterers, and relevant maritime authorities.
  • Maintain discipline, morale, and welfare of crew members.
  • Ensure proper documentation and reporting in line with company and regulatory requirements.

Required Documents & Certifications

  • Certificate of Competency (CoC) – Master (Reg. II/2)
  • Flag State Endorsement (for foreign licence holders)
  • GMDSS (GOC)
  • Radar/ARPA & ECDIS certification
  • Bridge Resource Management (BRM)
  • Advanced Fire Fighting
  • Proficiency in Survival Craft
  • STCW Basic Safety (PST, PSSR, FPFF, EFA)
  • Medical Fitness Certificate
  • Seaman’s Book
  • Valid Passport
  • Security Awareness / Ship Security Officer (SSO) – preferred
  • Minimum required sea-time as Chief Officer

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum required sea-time experience, including service as Chief Officer.
  • Strong knowledge of international maritime conventions and offshore operations.
  • Proven leadership and crisis management skills.
  • Experience in liaising with regulatory authorities and stakeholders.

Location & Work Conditions

  • Rotational schedule as per company policy.

General Requirements

  • Valid international passport.
  • Valid STCW 2010 (Manila Amendments)
  • Previous SEV or offshore vessel experience preferred
  • Clean disciplinary record
  • Updated CV with sea-time
  • Valid medical certificates
