CHIEF ENGINEER

Job Purpose:

The Chief Engineer is the head of the engine department and holds overall responsibility for the operation, maintenance, and efficiency of the vessel’s propulsion and auxiliary machinery. This role ensures compliance with international maritime standards, oversees fuel management, and leads the engineering team to deliver safe and reliable vessel performance.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the engine department.
  • Maintain overall responsibility for propulsion and auxiliary machinery.
  • Implement and oversee the Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
  • Manage bunkering operations and ensure fuel efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with MARPOL pollution prevention regulations.
  • Supervise engine officers and ratings.
  • Support the Captain in emergency drills and vessel operations.

Required Documents & Certifications

  • Certificate of Competency (CoC) – Chief Engineer (Reg. III/2)
  • Flag State Endorsement (for foreign licence holders)
  • Engine Room Resource Management (ERM)
  • High Voltage Certificate
  • Advanced Fire Fighting
  • Proficiency in Survival Craft
  • STCW Basic Safety certification
  • Valid Medical Certificate
  • Seaman’s Book and Passport

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum required sea-time experience as an engineering officer.
  • Strong knowledge of vessel propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, and maintenance planning.
  • Experience in bunker management and fuel efficiency monitoring.
  • Familiarity with international maritime conventions and offshore operations.

Location & Work Conditions

  • Valid STCW 2010 (Manila Amendments)
  • Previous SEV or offshore vessel experience preferred
  • Clean disciplinary record
  • Updated CV with sea-time
  • Valid medical certificates
