Job Purpose:
The Second Engineer supports the Chief Engineer in managing the vessel’s engine department. This role is responsible for daily engine room operations, maintenance of auxiliary machinery, and supervision of junior engineering staff. The Second Engineer ensures compliance with international maritime standards and contributes to the safe and efficient running of the vessel.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee daily engine room operations.
- Maintain and service auxiliary engines and generators.
- Supervise Oilers and engine ratings.
- Assist with record keeping, including the Oil Record Book.
- Support the Chief Engineer in technical management and maintenance planning.
- Participate in safety drills and emergency response procedures.
Required Documents & Certifications
- Certificate of Competency (CoC) – Second Engineer (Reg. III/2)
- Flag State Endorsement (for foreign licence holders)
- Engine Room Resource Management (ERM)
- High Voltage Certificate (if applicable)
- Advanced Fire Fighting
- STCW Basic Safety certification
- Valid Medical Certificate
- Seaman’s Book and Passport
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum required sea-time experience as an engineering officer.
- Strong knowledge of auxiliary machinery and engine room operations.
- Experience supervising junior engineering staff.
- Familiarity with international maritime conventions and offshore operations.

- Previous SEV or offshore vessel experience preferred
